At Christmas God comes to us as an infant in Jesus; this is a strange occurrence and Jesus, the Light of the World, comes disguised as a stranger in the world. God’s been doing this for generation—showing up in stranger, neighbour and friend—sometimes it seems so strange we miss seeing God in these encounters. In order to prepare our hearts for meeting Jesus as an infant, we will look at stories where God showed up as a stranger and did some strange things.
We also encourage you to read through Scripture, particularly the stories of Abraham, Jacob, Naomi, David, Mary, and the Shepherds.
Scripture references include: Genesis 18:1-15, Genesis 32:22-31, Ruth; Psalm 69, Luke 1:26-38, John 1:1-14, Matthew 2:1-12, Ecclesiastes 3:1-13, Psalm 8, Revelation 21:1-6a, and Matthew 2:13-18
We encourage you to pick up a copy of Krish Kandiah’s book, God is Stranger: Finding God is Unexpected Places, as it will be referenced throughout this series.
